Course Description

A Leisure Duty Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of a leisure facility (including swimming pools, fitness suites, outdoor sports tracks, and even creches). It is a varied role with a range of responsibilities, and offers real opportunities for progression to the right candidates. 

Typically a leadership role, the Leisure Duty Manager position will focus on ensuring that staff are delivering an outstanding customer experience. This is a hands-on role, with responsibility for front-line operation of the facility. 

A Leisure Duty Manager has a positive ‘can do’ attitude. They are driven, friendly and approachable, with strong interpersonal skills.

Career Progression & Entry Requirements

Leisure Duty Managers will typically have experience in the leisure industry. Learners must have both English and Maths GCSE qualifications at grade C or above (or approved equivalent). This must be completed before the completion of the apprenticeship.

Possible routes for career progression include Centre Manager, Area Manager, or Leadership roles in larger facilities.

Programme Duration: Typically 15-18 months

Professional Registration: On successful completion of this apprenticeship, the Leisure Duty Manager will be eligible to become a member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
